The concept of this app is a good idea, my son loved typing on the keyboard...BUT the game kept jamming my system. the screen would go black and the only way i could get it back was by completely unpluging my whole system and starting it up again. ill keep my eye out for a revised version.

Easy download and lots of fun to use. This is just lots of fun and my grandsons love it. My friend is going to get it for her grandchildren and she thinks it is fantastic. Lots of fun. I can think of all things to do with it, rhyming games, spelling words, and just word fun. I love it.

I got this app as something to do with my niece while babysitting. It is so adorable, and she loved playing with it. She even chose this over Dora - a first!

Had trouble with the original download but contacted the developer, who quickly replied and sent a revised app, which fixed the initial issue I was having. Very cute app!

Okay so I wanted to find a neat little app for my 6 and 4 years old to help them get comfortable with computers. A friend introduced me to Big Typer. I thought wow its pretty simple and so I download it and let my kids at it. My son just love banging on the keys and hear the music, but my daughter has found an awesome way of using this app that I dont think even the creator has thought about. She uses it to help her read chapter books! Any words she cant read she would just type it in to Big Typer and voila! No need for Big Daddy to big around to help out with big words. Very Cool!

It makes my computer screen black

For some reason every time I open this app it makes my computer screen black and I can not do anything else but shut down my computer. What is wrong?

Right after I purchased Big Typer I challenged it to speak, "The farmer taught his sow to sow." It got it right! Pleasantly surprised, I gave it, "The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert." Bingo! I continued to be amazed as Big Typer scored perfectly on almost all such challenges. It even gave proper inflection to, "Does he eat cake? Yes, he eats cake." We use it with our grandson, who is learning to read. It is terrific for that purpose, The interface is dirt simple, No buttons or key sequences that a kid will hit by mistake and become lost in menus. Only a few clear buttons. Also, the musical notes with typing is nice touch. If your grandchildren are anything like mine, they may try a little childishly naughty language and end up in gales of laughter when they get it, and discover a lot about spelling when they dont. Let the be silly! Theyll be learning fast. But Big Typer need not be just for kids. I use it to help foreign students learn to work with English words whose pronunciation depends on context. As a Reading Specialist, (and 1st grade teacher) Ive been looking for something just like this for 2-3 years. Its simplicity keeps the students focused on a single task... * Full screen app. No accidental clicks all over the place. * No complicated menus, and just one clear big font. * Great for phonics, spelling. writing etc. * Gives the student the opportunity to self-monitor by listening to what they just wrote. This app allows my young students to work independendly. Love it!

My almost-four-year-old has gotten into some version of typing/banging on the keyboard but was accidentally invoking other commands when I just gave him a blank Word document to play in. And he would type gibberish and want me to read it for him. This app perfectly solves both problems - a full-screen editor with no magic key combinations, and it reads his words, or gibberish, back to him. Although, devs: Why is the "Speak" button so tiny compared to "clear" and "quit"? He uses "speak" far more often. And it would be cool to be able to switch to the other OS X-supplied voices with an option suitably hidden somewhere. So, ok, maybe not quite perfect, but weve gotten $1.99 worth out of it in the first day alone.

All I want is an app that lets my kid type letters on the keyboard and have the letters pronounced as they are pressed. No speak buttons, no colors, no beeps. This is… almost that, but there isn’t a single setting anywhere in the app to a) Disable colors and background b) Increase the font size c) Disable the annoying beeping d) Speak on press e) Disable typing of non-locale characters such as ø and ē
